Archiving sounds simple — you save things. But in reality, it's a thousand small decisions that determine whether material becomes usable or just stored. We sat down with the Ocean Archive team to ask three questions about what they're actually building.

WHAT IS OCEAN ARCHIVE, IN ONE SENTENCE?

A future-proof place where underwater images, film, and oceanographic data can live together — with enough context to support education, research, and storytelling.

Making material future-proof without losing its soul. That means handling formats, structure, metadata, and rights — while respecting creators and being honest about what we know and what we don't.
