Underwater images are often what makes us stop scrolling. But their real value grows when we know where, when, how, and what we're seeing. That's where the archive begins.

### FRAME 1 — LIGHT THAT REVEALS

A single beam of light can make an entire environment readable. For the archive: note depth, visibility, location, equipment, and whether light is artificial.

### FRAME 2 — THE ENCOUNTER

People appear as part of the ocean story — observed, not spotlighted.

### FRAME 3 — THE TRACE

A trace in sediment can be an event, a behaviour, or simply current. Context matters: what did the creator think they saw?

### FRAME 4 — BUILT STRUCTURES UNDERWATER

Wrecks, ropes, nets, infrastructure — cultural history and impact in the same frame. Metadata: object ID, known position, estimated age if available.

### FRAME 5 — WHAT ALMOST DISAPPEARS

Small becomes big when repeated over time. An archive makes "then vs now" comparison possible.

##### Minimum metadata for photo/video

- Date (or best estimate)

- Location (coordinates or region)

- Depth (a range is fine)

- Creator/photographer + contact

- Rights/license (at minimum: can we publish in the magazine?)

- Short context (2 sentences)
